About these Terms
These Terms are a contract between you and Unblurred Ltd (“Unblurred”, “we”, “us”). We are a private company limited by shares registered in Ireland under company number 767837, at Unit 3D North Point House, North Point Business Park, New Mallow Road, Cork, T23 AT2P, Ireland. You can reach us at support@unblurred.app.
The Terms cover the Unblurred mobile app, the website unblurred.app and every related service we provide (together, the “Service”). By tapping “I agree” during sign-up, or by using the Service, you accept them.
Three other documents form part of this contract:
- our Privacy Policy, which explains how we use your personal data;
- our Community Guidelines, which set the rules for how members treat each other;
- the pledges you make when you join: that you are 18 or over, that you will respect the rules and other people, and that you will keep it decent.
If these Terms and the Community Guidelines conflict, these Terms win. Please read them. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
These Terms do not take away any rights you have as a consumer under the law of the country where you live, including the laws implementing EU Directives 2011/83/EU and 2019/770 and, if you live in the United Kingdom, the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
Who can use Unblurred
You can use Unblurred only if all of these are true:
- You are 18 or over.
- You can lawfully enter a binding contract.
- You are not barred from the Service under the law of your country.
- You have not been convicted of a sexual offence, or of a violent offence against a person, and you are not on any sex-offender register.
- We have not banned you from the Service before, unless we have told you in writing that you may come back.
You may hold one account, and it must be for you. You sign up with an email address you control. We send a one-time code to that address by email.
Identity and age verification. After you choose a plan, and before you can match or chat, you must verify your identity. You do this with an ID document and a selfie, checked by our verification provider, AlfaTrust Certification, which uses TrustX by Daon. If the check shows you are under 18, we close your account and refund your payment (the “Paid features” section). That result is final, but you can sign up again once you turn 18. If your document does not match the details you gave us, we may ask you to try again, send the case for human review, or refuse verification. We use the birth date on your document as your age on Unblurred. The Privacy Policy explains how this data is handled.
Verification lowers risk but does not remove it. It confirms that a document and a face match. It does not confirm anyone’s intentions, history or honesty.
Banned members cannot come back. If we ban you permanently, we keep a minimal record so that neither your email address nor your ID document can be used to open a new account (the “Ending your account” section).
What Unblurred is, and what it is not
Unblurred is a dating app where you get to know someone before you see them.
- Discovery. We show you profiles of people near you. We rank them by how well your profiles fit and by the filters you choose, such as distance, age and who you are interested in. Dealbreakers work both ways: if either of you rules out the other, neither of you is shown the other. Other members see only an approximate distance from you, never your location.
- Connecting. You can like a profile or answer its question. If the interest is mutual, you match and can chat.
- Blurred photos. Photos start blurred. When a conversation reaches its final stage, both photos clear at the same time, with no action from either of you. An AI analysis of the conversation decides which stage it has reached (the “AI features” section). Once clear, a photo stays clear for that match.
- Connection Coach. An AI coach helps you build your profile when you sign up. On the Premium plan, you can also talk to it at any time, including about your conversations with matches.
- Weekly report. On the Premium plan, you get a weekly report with an analysis of your activity and how your conversations are going.
Unblurred is not:
- a guarantee. We do not promise that you will match, meet anyone, or find a relationship.
- a background check. We do not screen members for criminal records. We verify identity and age only (the “Who can use Unblurred” section).
- therapy or professional advice. The Connection Coach is not a counsellor, therapist, doctor or lawyer. Do not use it in place of one.
- an emergency service. If you or someone else is in danger, call your local emergency number. The Safety Centre in the app lists the number and support helplines for your country.
We may change, add or remove features over time. If a change takes away something you have paid for, the “Paid features” section applies.
Your account
- Be truthful. Your profile must describe you. Your age, gender and photos must be your own and current. Your photos must show your face clearly. For your profile name you can use your first name or a nickname. We ask for your full name only to check your ID; other members never see it.
- Keep it secure. You are responsible for what happens on your account. Do not share your sign-in codes, and keep your email account and phone secure. If you think someone else has access, tell us at support@unblurred.app straight away.
- Your email address. Your account is tied to your email address. Keep access to it: we use it to sign you in, to recover your account and to send you important notices about your account. You can change it in Settings; we send a code to the new address to confirm it. If you lose access to your old address, contact us.
- Pausing. You can pause your account in Settings. While paused, your profile is hidden from discovery. Your matches and chats are kept. Pausing does not pause your subscription; to stop paying, cancel it in the store (the “Paid features” section).
AI features
Unblurred uses artificial intelligence in four places. When a feature is AI-driven, we say so in the app.
- Conversation analysis. AI models read the messages in each of your conversations. They estimate how the connection is growing and place the conversation in one of five stages. At the fifth stage, your photos clear for each other. A conversation never moves back a stage; while it is quiet, it simply does not move on. The analysis also feeds the insights the coach shows on the Premium plan, and it screens messages for safety risks such as attempts to share contact details before the blur lifts, scam patterns and signs that someone may be under 18. This analysis is a core part of how Unblurred works. You cannot use the app without it.
- Matching. We use AI-generated profile summaries (embeddings) to estimate how well two profiles fit. This affects the order of profiles in discovery and the match percentage you see.
- Connection Coach. The coach is an AI. It is not a person. On the Membership plan, you use it only while you set up your profile. On the Premium plan, you can talk to it at any time. It can read your profile and what you tell it, and it keeps notes on what you tell it. During sign-up it suggests notes that are kept only if you tap to confirm them; notes from later chats are deleted after 90 days, or sooner if you clear them in Settings. On the Premium plan, if you give a separate consent the first time you use it, it also reads your conversation with a match you ask about, including their messages. It suggests edits to your profile, but changes them only when you confirm. It never sends messages for you. If what you tell the coach suggests a match puts you at risk, it can help you unmatch, and that creates a report a person on our team reviews. If you tell the coach you are in danger or in crisis, it shows you the helplines for your country. If you tell it you are under 18, we review your account.
- Weekly report (Premium). Each week, AI prepares a report for you from your activity and the stages and scores of your conversations. Only you see it. It describes your own use of the app; it does not show you the content of anyone’s messages, and it is not used to make decisions about you.
Limits of AI. AI output can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. A stage or a compatibility estimate is a model’s guess, not a verdict on a person or a relationship. Use your own judgement. Do not rely on AI output for decisions about your safety, health, money or legal position.
No person at Unblurred reads your conversations to place them in stages or to coach you. People on our team may see messages only in the cases set out in the “Reports, blocking, moderation and bans” section and in the Privacy Policy.
Questioning a result. If you think an AI result is wrong or unfair, contact us at support@unblurred.app. A person will look at it and tell you what they found.
Your content
“Your content” means everything you add to Unblurred: photos, profile text, answers, messages, and what you tell the coach.
You own your content. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, process, adapt and display it. That includes making blurred versions of your photos and analysing your messages with AI. We use this licence only to run, secure and improve the Service. It ends when your content is deleted, except where the sections “Reports, blocking, moderation and bans” and “Ending your account” let us keep something. We never use your photos or anything that identifies you in marketing outside the app without your separate written permission.
Others will see some of it. Your profile, photos (blurred until your conversation with that member reaches its final stage, the “AI features” section) and answers are shown to other members. Your messages are seen by the person you send them to.
You promise that:
- you have the right to share your content, and it does not break anyone’s rights or the law;
- every photo is of you, or you have permission from everyone in it;
- you are not sharing private information about other people without their permission.
Other people’s content. Content from other members belongs to them. You may not copy, screenshot, record, save, share or publish another member’s photos, messages or profile outside Unblurred. The app blocks screenshots where the device lets it, but you must respect this rule anyway. Breaking it is a serious breach of these Terms.
Feedback. If you send us ideas or suggestions, we may use them freely. We owe you nothing for them.
Community rules
The Community Guidelines set out five rules: be yourself, be kind, respect the blur, keep it legal, and speak up. You must follow them. You must also never:
- pretend to be someone else, or give a false age, gender or identity;
- harass, threaten, bully, stalk, intimidate or shame anyone;
- post hate speech, or attack anyone over race, ethnicity, religion, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation or age;
- send sexual content anyone has not asked for, or any sexual content involving a minor;
- ask for, offer or pressure anyone for photos or contact details outside the app before the blur lifts;
- ask for money, gifts, financial details or investments, or run any scam, romance fraud or pyramid scheme;
- advertise, sell, solicit or promote anything, including sex work or escort services;
- promote or encourage violence, self-harm, terrorism or illegal drugs;
- share another person’s private information or intimate images without consent;
- record or copy other members’ content (the “Your content” section);
- use bots, scripts or scraping, or access the Service other than through our app;
- reverse-engineer, interfere with, overload or probe the Service, or get around its security, blur or limits;
- try to manipulate the AI, for example to move a conversation to a later stage, unblur photos, or pull out other members’ data;
- create another account after we have suspended or banned you;
- use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
Meeting in person. Members are responsible for their own conduct, online and offline. We do not control and are not responsible for what happens when members meet. Use the safety tips in the Safety Centre: meet in public, tell a friend, and arrange your own transport.
Reports, blocking, moderation and bans
Reporting. You can report a member from their profile, before or after matching, or from your chat. Pick a reason and tell us what happened. A person on our safety team reads every report. When you report from a chat, we copy up to the last 50 messages of that chat into the report so the reviewer can see what happened; we tell you this on the report screen. Anyone, member or not, can report illegal content to safety@unblurred.app.
Profile checks. We also check profile text, such as your bio, against these Terms and the Community Guidelines. If something you wrote breaks them, the coach asks you to change it. If you keep it, a person on our safety team reviews it and may limit or block your account under this section.
Unmatching and blocking. You can unmatch anyone at any time; they will no longer be able to message you. You can also block anyone, matched or not. A blocked member can no longer see your profile or contact you, and you will not be shown each other again. Blocking is private: we do not tell the other person.
What we can do. If we believe someone has broken these Terms, the Community Guidelines or the law, we may:
- remove or hide content;
- limit features;
- suspend the account for a period;
- ban the account permanently. A ban applies to the person, their email address and their ID document, not just the account.
We decide what to do based on how serious the breach is and how likely it is to happen again. A person on our team makes every suspension and ban decision. We do not ban accounts automatically, except that a verification result showing you are under 18 closes the account (the “Who can use Unblurred” section).
We may act without warning when someone is at risk, when the law requires it, or when the breach is serious. We may report illegal activity, and share information with police or other authorities, where the law requires or allows it. Where we become aware of a threat to someone’s life or safety, we will inform the authorities as the Digital Services Act requires.
We tell you why. If we act on your account or content, we tell you what we did, why, and which rule we relied on. We also tell you how to challenge the decision. We may not do this when the law forbids it, or when telling you would put someone at risk.
Challenging a decision. You can ask us to review any moderation decision within six months, through the app or at safety@unblurred.app. A different person, who did not make the original decision, reviews it. We will reply without undue delay and in any case within 14 days. If you are in the EU, you may also take the dispute to a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body. You can always go to court.
Reports and deleting your account. If someone has reported you and our review is still open, deleting your account does not end the review. The “Ending your account” section explains what we keep.
If you live in the UK. The UK Online Safety Act 2023 also applies to Unblurred. This section, the “Community rules” section and the Community Guidelines set out how we protect you from illegal content: you can report it from any profile or chat, a person on our safety team reviews every report, and we remove illegal content and act against the account responsible. We use automated tools to help: AI screens messages and profile text for scams, signs that someone is under 18, threats and contact details shared before the blur lifts (the “AI features” section), and a person decides what to do with every flag. You can complain to us about content, about a decision we made, or about how we meet our duties under that Act, through the app or at safety@unblurred.app. If we remove your content, restrict your access, or suspend or ban you in breach of these Terms, you have the right to bring a claim against us for breach of contract.
Paid features
Unblurred is a paid service. To use it, you need one of two subscription plans:
- Active chats at a time. 5. Premium: 10.
- Daily likes and answered questions. Standard. Premium: Increased.
- Connection Coach. Help setting up your profile. Premium: At any time, including advice on your conversations with matches.
- Weekly report and analysis. —. Premium: Yes.
- Stay blurred (nobody can buy a sneak peek of your photo). No. Premium: Yes, in Settings.
- Premium trial. One week of Premium included. Premium: —.
The current prices, including VAT, are shown in the app and in the store listing before you pay.
When you pay. You choose a plan after you sign up with your email address and before you verify your identity (the “Who can use Unblurred” section). Before you pay, you confirm that you are 18 or over and that you understand verification is required. If verification fails through no fault of yours, or shows that you are under 18, we refund the payment in full. We ask the store to issue the refund; where the store cannot, we refund you ourselves. If you simply do not complete verification, your subscription stays active so you can finish it, and the normal cancellation and refund rules apply.
Sneak peeks. A sneak peek is a one-off purchase, open to members on either plan. Once your conversation with a match reaches the third stage, a sneak peek shows you their clear photo for 15 seconds. One sneak peek is available per match. It is used up once shown. It does not change the stage, and the photo is blurred again afterwards.
Your photo and sneak peeks. A match whose conversation with you has reached the third stage may buy a sneak peek of your photo, unless you are on Premium and have switched on Stay blurred. Stay blurred is available on Premium in Settings, and on Premium we ask you whether you want it on when you set up your profile. Whenever someone views a sneak peek of your photo, we tell you in the app that it happened, but not who it was. On Membership, we show you this when you match, and you accept it for that match by continuing with it. Nobody can buy a sneak peek of someone they have not matched with.
Buying. You buy through the Apple App Store or Google Play, and their payment terms also apply. Plans run for 1 or 3 months. The price, including VAT, is shown in the app before you pay. We may change prices. A price change applies to your subscription only from your next renewal after we have told you, at least 30 days in advance, and you can cancel before then.
Changing plans. If you move up to Premium, the change applies straight away and the store charges the difference for the rest of the period. If you move down to Membership, the change applies at the end of the period you paid for. If you then have more active chats than Membership allows, the chats above the limit are paused: you can read them but not send, and your matches are told that the chat is paused, not that you downgraded. You have seven days to choose which five chats stay active; if you do not choose, we keep the five that have progressed furthest. A paused chat resumes when a slot frees up or you move back to Premium.
Renewal and cancelling. Your plan renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. Cancel in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings at least 24 hours before the period ends. Your plan then stays active until the end of the period you paid for. After that, your profile is hidden, your chats are paused and your data is kept for six months so you can subscribe again. If you do not, we delete your account after warning you by push notification and email. Deleting your account or the app does not cancel your subscription. Cancel it in the store.
Trials and offers. Every member on the Membership plan gets one week of Premium, which starts when you first open a match chat and ends automatically without charge. We may offer other trials and introductory prices. Each offer says what happens when it ends. If a trial turns into a paid plan, you are charged when it ends unless you cancel before then. Each offer can be used once per person.
Your right to withdraw (EU and UK). You normally have 14 days to withdraw from an online purchase. When you buy, you ask us, with a separate tick, to start the service or provide the digital content straight away, and you accept that:
- for a sneak peek, you lose the right to withdraw once the photo is shown;
- for a subscription, if you withdraw within 14 days, you pay for the part of the period you have already used, and we refund the rest.
Refunds. Beyond the refunds above and your rights under the law and the store’s rules, payments are not refundable. That includes unused time when you cancel, a sneak peek once shown, and accounts we end because you broke these Terms. The store handles refund requests for purchases made through it. To ask for one, use Report a Problem (reportaproblem.apple.com) for the App Store, or your order history in Google Play. You can also write to support@unblurred.app and we will help. If we end the Service, the “Ending your account” section applies.
If something does not work. If a sneak peek you paid for is not shown because of a fault on our side, we let you use it again or refund it. If the app or a paid feature does not work as we describe it, you have the remedies the law gives you, such as having it fixed, a price reduction or a refund. Nothing in this section limits those rights.
Paid features do not change the safety rules or how we moderate. Nobody can buy a match, a later stage, or a permanent unblur.
Our intellectual property and trade marks
The Service belongs to us and our licensors, apart from your content and other members’ content. That includes the app, its design, the coach, our software and models, and the progressive photo-reveal mechanic, which is the subject of a patent application owned by Unblurred Ltd. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app on devices you own or control. The licence lasts while you have an account and follow these Terms.
Trade marks. UNBLURRED, the Unblurred logo and the blurred-photo visual identity are trade marks of Unblurred Ltd, whether or not registered in a particular country. We have applied to register UNBLURRED as a trade mark in the United Kingdom. You may not use them, or any confusingly similar name, logo, domain, app name or social-media handle, without our prior written permission, or in a way that suggests we endorse or are affiliated with you. You may refer to Unblurred by name to describe the Service accurately.
App stores. If you downloaded the app from the Apple App Store, these Terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple has no duty to maintain or support the app. If the app fails to meet a warranty, you may tell Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price. Beyond that, Apple has no warranty obligation. Apple is not responsible for claims about the app, including product liability, legal compliance and intellectual property claims. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you. The same applies to Google where the Google Play terms require it.
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in Settings, including while a ban is in force. Deletion takes effect straight away. Your profile disappears from Unblurred, you leave all your matches and chats, your messages are removed from your matches’ chats, and we erase your data as the Privacy Policy describes. Deletion cannot be undone. Remember to cancel any subscription in the store first (the “Paid features” section). If you have an active subscription, the app reminds you before you confirm and links to your store’s subscription settings.
What we keep. We keep some data after deletion in these cases:
- Banned accounts. We keep a minimal record so you cannot sign up again: a one-way code derived from your email address, the ban, its reason and its date. For a permanent ban we also ask our verification provider to keep a one-way code derived from your ID document number, so the same document cannot be used to open a new account. Neither code can be turned back into your email address or document. For a temporary ban we erase the record when the ban ends. For a permanent ban we erase it after two years.
- Under-18 results. If verification showed you were under 18, we keep a one-way code derived from your email address and the date you turn 18, and nothing else, until that date.
- Open reports. If a report against you is still under review, we keep what the review needs until it ends. If the report is upheld, the banned-account rule applies. If it is dismissed, we erase the rest.
We also keep data where the law requires it, for example purchase records for tax, and a record of the Terms and consents you accepted.
We can end or suspend your account under the “Reports, blocking, moderation and bans” section. We can also close it if we stop offering the Service. If we close the Service, we will give you at least 30 days’ notice where we can, and refund any prepaid period you have not used.
The parts of these Terms about other people’s content and refunds, and the sections “Our intellectual property and trade marks”, “Disclaimers and liability” and “Changes, law and contact”, continue to apply after your account ends.
Disclaimers and liability
The Service is provided as it is. We work to keep Unblurred safe, available and accurate. We cannot promise it will always be uninterrupted, error-free or secure. We do not promise any outcome from using it. We are not responsible for what members say or do, on or off the app. That includes when you meet someone in person.
What we are liable for. Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for:
- death or personal injury caused by our negligence;
- fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation;
- defective digital content or services under the laws that implement Directive 2019/770 and, from 9 December 2026, the Product Liability Directive (EU) 2024/2853;
- for consumers in the United Kingdom, liability under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and Part 1 of the Consumer Protection Act 1987;
- anything else the law does not allow us to exclude, including your statutory rights as a consumer.
What we are not liable for. Subject to the paragraph above, we are not liable for:
- loss that was not reasonably foreseeable when you accepted these Terms;
- loss caused by other members or third parties;
- loss caused by your breach of these Terms;
- business losses. The Service is for personal use only.
Cap. Subject to the same paragraphs, our total liability to you is capped at the greater of: (a) what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, and (b) €100.
Your responsibility. You are responsible for loss you cause us by breaking these Terms or the law. If you use the Service as a consumer, this applies only where the law allows.
Changes, law and contact
Changes to these Terms. We may update these Terms to reflect changes to the Service, the law or how we operate. For a material change, we will tell you in the app at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you do not agree, you can delete your account before then and we refund any prepaid period you have not used. If you keep using the Service after the change takes effect, the new Terms apply. Small changes that do not affect your rights, such as fixing typos, may take effect straight away. The date at the top shows the current version.
Governing law. The law of Ireland governs these Terms. If you are a consumer living in another country, you keep the protection of that country’s mandatory consumer law. You may bring proceedings in the courts of Ireland or of the country where you live; in the United Kingdom, the courts of England and Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland, depending on where you live. We will bring proceedings against you only in the courts of the country where you live.
Disputes. Please contact us first at support@unblurred.app so we can try to fix things; we aim to answer within 30 days. EU consumers can also use the out-of-court dispute bodies in the “Reports, blocking, moderation and bans” section, where they apply.
General. If a court finds part of these Terms invalid, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a right straight away, we have not given it up. You may not transfer your account or these Terms. We may transfer them to a company that takes over the Service, as long as your rights are not reduced. These Terms, with the documents in the “About these Terms” section, are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service.
